Medieval Institutions

Here we look at what is arguably the greatest problem and threat to the future of humanity, as best expressed by the father of sociobiology E O Wilson

The argument here in this beautifully crafted quote is that there is both a disturbing and dark combination of attributes embedded in the core of human society, and little we can do about it without addressing the nature of our institutions.

The possibility of turning back the clock, or even slowing down progress of human invention and scientific progress is hard to conceive.

We have the ability to split the atom and change the nature of human and biological evolution, to create weapons that can destroy much of life on earth as we know it. Even if we sought to slow down or contain this knowledge in society, such an ability is outside of our current ethical frameworks and social ability.

With regard to a critique of institutional structures it is hard to find a self-critical perspective in terms of the current state of research institutions and incentives within science.
